Music + Poetry: Rara Avis + Michael Shay

RARA AVIS:

Rara Avis explores music for woodwinds with an emphasis on the Baroque. Delores Thornton (flute), Charlotte Gruner (flute), Richard Turner (bassoon), and Kathy Williams (piano), all present and former musicians of the Wyoming Symphony, provide a blend of sounds that fits beautifully for trio sonatas of the eighteenth century as well as contemporary arrangements of popular favorites.

Originally formed in response for a call for musicians for the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra’s “Music on the Move” project, Rara Avis is traditional chamber music built around portability and flexibility. The ensemble has been featured by the Casper Chamber Music Society and ARTCORE and performs outreach in the Natrona County School District.

MICHAEL SHAY:

Michael Shay is a fiction writer in Cheyenne. He’s writing a historical novel set in 1919 Colorado inspired by his grandmother’s diaries from her time as a U.S. Army nurse in France during World War I.  Shay championed writers and all the Arts in Wyoming as the Wyoming Arts Council supervisor of the literature program and its publications.
