The Oil City Slickers is a barbershop chorus based in Casper, affiliated with the Barbershop Harmony Society (barbershop.org). Founded in 1968, the group has been a staple of the local music scene for decades, offering performances that celebrate the rich tradition of barbershop harmony.

The Oil City Slickers welcome new members and guests to their rehearsals, held every Monday at 6:30 PM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. They perform at community events, private functions, weddings, anniversaries, and memorial services. India Hayford’s debut novel, The Song of the Blue Bottle Tree, was released by Kensington Publishing Corporation in March of 2025 and is featured in Publisher’s Marketplace Buzz Books for Spring/Summer 2025. Her second novel, Days of Sun and Shadow, will be released in July 2026. Between 2015 and 2024, she produced The Howl, a quarterly wildlife newsletter with national distribution. A short story collection, Howl, won the 2023 Neltje Blanchan Memorial Writing Award for best work inspired by nature.Her feature articles and short stories have appeared in regional and national publications, and she is the author of two books on embroidery.

A former Border Patrol brat, India moved to Wyoming half a century ago. She has worked as a range conservationist, fisheries biologist, belly dancer, scraper operator, museum naturalist, fiber artist, historical reenactor, ranch hand, and first responder for the sheriff’s office victim response unit. She and her husband Roy have been married for well over four decades and still like each other. They have two children and two grandchildren.
