Micah Miller is a Wyoming native performer and composer. He grew up in Casper, and spent much of his time here attending ARTCORE programs that helped inspire a love of music and the arts. Micah started playing the trumpet in 5th grade, and quickly developed a love for jazz and modern music. He was lucky enough to participate in a number of different honor groups all over the country throughout high school, including the All-Northwest Jazz Band, the NAfME National Honor Band, and the Arturo Sandoval Institute All-Star Jazz Band. After graduating from Natrona County High School in 2017, Micah attended the University of Northern Colorado, majoring in Jazz Studies with an emphasis in trumpet and vocal jazz. While at UNC, he found an interest in composition, and has been writing original music and playing in northern Colorado for the last 2 years. He graduated (digitally) from UNC last spring, and plans to continue a career in composition and performance. Micah will be premiering Themes from Mountain Scenes, his entry in the 2020 ARTCORE New Music Competition, and other original pieces, playing with musicians and mentors from his time in Casper and Colorado.
